Photographers Gorman & Gorman shoot for the August issue of Field & Stream magazine.

Behind the Scenes…
In creating this image the Gorman’s photographed all the elements in studio. The headlights, engine parts, tail pipes, intakes, and decals were all model hot rod and motorcycle parts. As there was quite a bit of scale discrepancy they had to ‘build’ the final shot in post.
After capturing the foundation element (actual reel, below) each additional element is put into relative position using blocks, armature, and monofilament. This is done to keep the highlights, lens distortions and reflections consistent. A puddle of molasses was used for the “oil slick” and everything was shot in an organic photographic manner to speed up and simplify the post production process.
